CNSNews.com) – When Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) gave her inaugural address as speaker of the House in 2007, she vowed there would be “no new deficit spending.” Since that day, the national debt has increased by $5 trillion, according to the U.S. Treasury Department.
“After years of historic deficits, this 110th Congress will commit itself to a higher standard: Pay as you go, no new deficit spending,” Pelosi said in her speech from the speaker’s podium. “Our new America will provide unlimited opportunity for future generations, not burden them with mountains of debt.”
Pelosi has served as speaker in the 110th and 111th Congresses.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — With a growing sense of urgency, labor unions are deploying tens of thousands of activists nationwide in an attempt to counteract the malaise in the rank and file and prevent Democrats from losing their congressional majorities in the middle of President Barack Obama’s term.
Unions expect to spend about $100 million in the weeks leading up to the Nov. 2 election, targeting nearly 100 House races, 18 Senate seats 14 gubernatorial races. Between campaign walks, door knocks, mailings, phone calls and work site leafleting, union officials already have contacted about half of their approximately 17.5 million members nationwide.
“A lot of people are mad, upset,” said George Tucker, executive secretary of the greater northwest Ohio AFL-CIO in Toledo. “They thought, ‘You let your team in and everything changes overnight.’”
“Sometimes you have to remind people that, ‘Hey, Jesus Christ couldn’t do anything more than President Obama has on the agenda we supported two years ago without the United States Senate having the votes for cloture to overcome a filibuster” by Republicans, said Herb Johnson, secretary-treasurer of the Missouri AFL-CIO.
It took the government 214 years to borrow the first $3 trillion, it took Obama only 22 months…
(CNS News)- It’s official: The Obama administration has now borrowed $3 trillion, according to the U.S. Treasury Department.
It took from 1776, when the United States became an independent country, until 1990, the year after the Berlin Wall fell signaling victory in the Cold War, for the federal government to accumulate a total of $3 trillion in debt, according to the Treasury Department. It only took from Jan. 20, 2009, the day President Barack Obama was inaugurated, until Oct. 15, 2010, for the Obama administration to add $3 trillion to the federal debt.
The overall debt of the federal government, according to the Treasury Department, is now $13.666 trillion.
Each business day, in the afternoon, the Treasury Department’s Bureau of the Public Debt publishes the exact amount—to the penny–of total federal debt as of the close of the previous business day.
At the close of business on Jan. 20, 2009, according to the bureau, the total debt of the federal government was $10,626,877,048,913.08. On Oct. 15, 2010, the federal government borrowed an additional $58,979,549,154.06, bringing the total federal debt at the close of Friday’s business day to $13,665,926,643,255.96—an increase of $3,039,049,594,342.88 since President Obama’s inauguration.
NO ONE should EVER disrespect U.S troops! EVER!!!
A singing ensemble of U.S. combat veterans, the 4T Troops, were allegedly barred by Joe Simpson from performing on TV alongside Jessica Simpson, 30, with a source claiming to Page Six that her team felt their camouflage attire wouldn’t look good on camera next to the decked-out beauty.
Simpson, in New York City with her boyfriend Eric Johnson, was taping a PBS holiday special on Thursday (a broadcast on which she’ll sing tunes from her upcoming album) when the alleged snub occurred.
But there are two sides to every skirmish: Jessica Simpson’s spokesperson tells PopEater the singer is innocent, and would never diss any members of the military.
“The song was cut due to time. Jessica wasn’t even aware. She is wholeheartedly devoted to the troops — she just returned from the Persian Gulf where she performed for, and met with, service men and women stationed at several different locations. Last night, she received a Silver Star Award for her work with AFCEF (Armed Forces Children’s Education Fund).”
ouch!! that’s gonna hurt ol’grandma in the pocket book
A Medicare official concedes that seniors may have to dig deeper into their wallets next year thanks to the health care law.
The new analysis obtained by POLITICO finds the health care overhaul will result in increased out-of-pocket costs for seniors on Medicare Advantage plans.
Richard Foster, the actuary for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, also tells Senate Republicans that the overhaul will result in “less generous benefit packages” for Medicare Advantage plans next year. Foster is independent from the administration and non-partisan.
Democrats have long contended that Medicare Advantage plans – private insurance alternatives to Medicare – overpay private insurers, increasing premiums for everyone, and needs to be reformulated.
But Republicans say dramatic changes to the program mean some seniors won’t be able to keep their plans – a promise President Barack Obama made during the reform debate – and the GOP has made the issue part of its attempt to roll back the health law.
